CONCRETE SUBFLOOR |

New construction: |
|
|
Make sure to allow the new concrete floor to dry for a week if it is of 1 - 4 cm thick and the double amount of time for a thickness of over 4 cm. The solid wood flooring is likely to absorb much of the excess humidity so make sure you use special dehumidifying equipment to avoid expanding or warping of the floors later on.
NOTE: These hardwood floor coverings are not compatible with underfloor heating due to the damaging effects temperature shifts might have on the wood and installing wooden floors in rooms with this type of heating will cause the guarantee to become void.

Renovation |
|
|
When renovating make sure that the irregularities in the surface of the floor do not exceed 3 mm in either direction and if so, smooth the surface out.

WOODEN SUBFLOOR |
|
|
Make sure that the wooden structures are soundly and securely fixed and that they are at least 18 mm in depth to provide sufficient support.
|
|
| |
PLY and CHIPBOARD SUBFLOORS |
|
|
Ply subfloors are preferred to Chipboard as they offer a better nail fix.
|
|
| |
Installing solid wood floors |
|
|
Moisture levels variate seasonally causing expansions or contractions in the surface of the floors, that is why an expansion gap of 15 mm must be taken into account when installing wooden floors.
NOTE: Do not install hardwood floors continually in various successive rooms. The floor should be broken in doorways and a 15 mm expansion gap should be left between the rooms that you can later on cover with profiles.

Preparing the floor |
|
|
When ordering solid wood floors make sure you purchase an extra 5 % in order to allow for any cutting or waste.
Make sure that the base floor is leveled and that all irregularities in the surface have been smoothed out prior to installation.
Do not store the unopen packs of hardwood flooring until plastering, cement or other wet work are completely dry.
Before starting the installation process inspect every plank of slid wood flooring and remove the faulty ones, if any.
Special water, alcohol or polyurethane free adhesives must be used.
